Phoenix is the market we were built around. Our office sits in Peoria on the north-west side of the valley, and from there we cover the city end to end — Camelback Mountain and Arcadia in the east, Deer Valley to the north, Ahwatukee down south and Desert Ridge out on the north-east edge.

The valley's housing stock is overwhelmingly stucco with tile roofs and an attached two-car garage facing the street, which means the garage door is the largest single design element on most elevations — and the one most visible from the road.

Arizona heat is hard on the parts that are made of rubber and plastic. Bottom seals go brittle and crack, and the stock plastic rollers most doors ship with degrade faster here than they do in milder climates.

Monsoon season drives dust and grit into tracks and across the safety eye sensors, which is why 'the door won't close and I don't know why' calls cluster in late summer. Nine times out of ten it is a sensor that needs cleaning and re-aligning rather than anything expensive.

Because our trucks carry the parts a garage door repair normally needs, most Phoenix calls are finished on the first visit rather than booked back in once a part arrives. In most cases we can be there within the hour of you ringing, and we do not add a surcharge for evening or weekend work.

The most urgent calls we get in the city are broken springs and doors that have come off their tracks. A broken spring makes the door impossible to lift, which usually means a car is shut inside; a door off its track can hang sideways in the opening and leave the garage and the house open. Both get same-day priority.

Alongside repair we install new doors across Phoenix, supply parts to contractors and homeowners, and run annual tune-ups. If you are unsure which of those you need, call and describe what the door is doing — the diagnosis is our job, and the phone quote is free.

Phoenix customers, in their own words

The spring broke on my garage door and I was nervous about calling garage door companies because I was ripped off before. I found Performance Door Service and crossed my fingers. The guy that answered the phone was friendly and took time to answer some questions I had. A garage door repair tech was available to come out within the hour so I said yes having a good feeling so far. The tech was in uniform and was also friendly. He took the time to look over everything on my garage and pointed out some concerns he had and gave me different options for repair. I chose to just change the spring and felt no pressure to do anymore.

We have used Performance Door Service on multiple occasions. They have done work as small as replacing a garage door remote that my wife lost, the maintenance and lubrication of the garage door, all the way up to replacing damaged garage door panels. Craig is prompt and he seems to want customers for life, not just a quick buck. I would recommend this company to anyone looking for garage door repair/replacement.

Phoenix questions

Do you cover all of Phoenix?

Yes — the whole city, from Ahwatukee in the south to Deer Valley and Desert Ridge in the north, and out to Arcadia and Camelback Mountain in the east. If you are just outside the city limits, call anyway and we will work something out.

How fast can you get to me in Phoenix?

In most cases within the hour, and most repairs are same day. Our office is in Peoria, so the north and west of the city are quickest, but we service the whole metro area.

My door won't close and the sun is on the sensors. Is that a thing?

It is one of the more common calls we get in the valley, particularly after a dust storm. The safety eye sensors stop the door closing when the beam is broken, and grit on the lens or a knock that puts them out of alignment will do exactly that. Check they are clean and lined up before you assume the worst — and do not force the door down.

Do you charge more for an emergency call in Phoenix?

No. Nights, weekends and holidays are the same rate. There is a $55 service call and safety inspection fee, and we waive it with any repair or installation.
