People assume a dented garage door means a new garage door. Most of the time it does not.

Individual panels can be replaced for roughly eight years from the date of manufacture, depending on whether the manufacturer still has them. Beyond that — and often instead of that — the dented panel itself can be repaired.

We can usually take a dent back to about 97% by straightening the panel, adding new support struts and an aluminium bottom retainer, and fitting a new bottom seal. It is a fraction of the cost of a new door and it takes a fraction of the time.

What's included

  • Dent straightening to approximately 97%
  • Individual panel replacement where available
  • Support strut installation
  • Aluminium bottom retainer
  • New bottom seal
  • Sagging door correction

Worth knowing

  • Cheaper than a doorA panel repair costs a fraction of a full replacement, and there is no lead time waiting for a door to arrive.
  • Struts stop it happening againAdding support struts stiffens the panel, which matters if the door was flexing under an opener that was pulling too hard.
  • A new seal comes with itA fresh bottom seal keeps dust, water and pests out — worth having on any door that has been sitting on a damaged retainer.

Panel Repair questions

My garage door is dented. Do I need to replace the entire door?

No. You can replace the individual panel, and panels can generally be sourced for about eight years from manufacture depending on availability. What most people do not realise is that the dented panel can often be repaired instead — we can usually get it to around 97% by straightening it, adding new support struts and an aluminium bottom retainer, and fitting a new bottom seal.

The door sags in the middle. Is that the same problem?

It is related. A sagging section usually means the panel has lost rigidity, and support struts are part of the fix. It is worth having looked at before the opener starts straining against it.

What causes panels to bend in the first place?

Impact is the obvious one, but a slower cause is worn plastic rollers. As they degrade the opener pulls harder against a door that is not moving freely, and the panels take the strain.
